Ferd Burden, Jr., 89 of Payne passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Ferd was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on February 19, 1923, a son of the late Hazel (Fry) and Ferd Ellsworth Burden.
He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard / Merchant Marine 1941-1945 and then served in the U.S. Army 1948-1949.
Ferd retired after 25 years from BF Goodrich & was a faithful member of Payne Church of the Nazarene.
In 1962 he married his wife of 49 years, Laura Cobb. Laura died Aug. 20, 2011.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Holly Jones of Payne, Ty John (Marcella) of Tooele, UT, David (Suzanne) and Jay Paul (Shellie), both of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Alice Waterman of New Bremen, Bill of Spencerville & Mark of Lima.
He is also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rachel Belle & eight siblings.
His funeral service is at Payne Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Mike Harper officiating on Friday, March 16 at 3 pm, with viewing two hours prior to the service at the church.
He will be laid to rest at Wiltsie Cemetery.
Memorials are to American Bible Society (Bibles for the Troops) or Payne Church of the Nazarene.

Holly and girls, I was sad to see that Ferd had died. I know all of you will truly miss him. Your family is in my prayers. I certainly enjoyed serving Laura and Ferd at the Antwerp Bank. Holly, God's peace be with you and the family.

Holly, Ty, David and Jay Paul, we are sorry for your loss. I know that you all had a very wonderful dad. I know too that you will miss him very much. Holly and family,
So sorry to hear of Ferd''s passing. I knew both he and your Mom as customers at the Antwerp Exchange Bank for all of the 25 years I have been here. They were always very nice. I will miss seeing him, as I know you will miss him also. Take care.
