Gary Gene Hughes

Gary Gene Hughes, 68, of Antwerp, Ohio passed away Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Laurels of Defiance.

Gary was born in Paulding, Ohio on July 6, 1957, a son of the late Ola 'Buddy" (Horn) and Gene Hughes.

He was a 1975 graduate of Antwerp High School. He enjoyed growing up in a large family where there was never a dull moment and his most cherished memories were made. Gary served his community, and many furnaces, having worked for the Ohio Gas Company for over 40 years. Gary will always be remembered for his enjoyment of boating, fishing, classic cars, hot rods and riding his Harley Davidson. Gary’s passion was art, which he may be most remembered for and is memorialized on cars, trucks, motorcycles, signage and businesses throughout the community. Gary was no stranger to having a cold one in hand, and offered the same to everyone that stopped in to see him to share memories.

Gary will be sadly missed by his children, Travis Hughes, Jayme (Jason) Landers, Jeremy (Emily) Hughes and Dustin (Nicole) Hughes; siblings, Louise (Austin White) Goll, Lynn (John) Garlough, Greg ‘Cork’ (Nancy) Hughes, Vince Hughes, Kent "Joe" (Beth) Hughes and Cindy (Mike) Kauser; grandchildren, Autumn (Kyle) Stalnaker, Jayvin (Kendall Billman) and Jagger Landers, Ella, Kamie, Carson and Ariya Hughes and three great grandchildren.

Viewing is Thursday, May 21st, 5 PM to 8 PM at Dooley Funeral Home, 202 W. River Street, Antwerp.

His funeral service is 11 AM, with viewing one hour prior on Friday, May 22nd at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

Gary will be laid to rest in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
