James William Parsons, 84, of Payne, Ohio passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Jim was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 8, 1941, a son of the late Leona (Seifert) Parsons and William James Parsons.
As a young man, he built homes with his father. Jim retained and utilized this skill throughout his life. Jim joined the Army after high school. He was stationed in Alaska, where he specialized in communications. This fit him well, since he never met a stranger. One of Jim's most memorable moments in Alaska was when an polar bear broke into the mess tent. His building and communication skills led him to his career as a lineman for GTE/Verizon. He was known to dig holes by hand and carry poles where trucks could not venture. Even though he was committed to his job, Jim was most comfortable working on his 1924 Dodge Brother's Business Sedan and making furniture and cabinetry from rough cut lumber. He was always able to put a smile on your face when he was asked how he felt, answering, "With my hands".
Jim will be sadly missed by his daughter, Barbara (John) Carter; siblings, Richard (Kay) Parsons, Thomas (Leslie) Parsons and Deanna Wilson; grandchildren Brian (Mindy) and Lindsey (Cory) and 5 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margie Ruth Parsons; son, James William Parsons II; grandson, Adam Andrew Ryder and sister, Joan Luman.
Jim will be laid to rest on Monday, July 14th with a graveside service at 1:30 PM in Marion Cemetery, 620 Delaware Ave, Marion, Ohio 43302. Jim's gravesite is located on the south side of the cemetery off of Vernon Height's Boulevard.
