Jeanette Black, 90, of Payne, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
Jeanette was born in Putnam County, Ohio on April 8, 1933, a daughter to the late Catherine (Fischbach) & Louis Hoersten.
On October 1, 1955, Jeanette married the love of her life, Frederick Black, and shared nearly 58 years of marriage with him. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2013.
Jeanette's long and remarkable 40 plus year career as a volunteer librarian touched the lives of countless students and faculty members at Divine Mercy Catholic School. Beyond her professional contributions, Jeanette will also be remembered for her vibrant personality and kind heart. Her loved ones often gathered for intense card games, where she would exhibit her competitive nature while cherishing quality time with family. When not immersed in books or spending time with loved ones, Jeanette found joy in watching Detroit Tigers baseball games, though, she would always say she didn't understand why the managers kept changing out pitchers! Another of her favorite activities was spending time outdoors caring for her garden. Jeanette's devout faith was a cornerstone of her life. She has been a long-standing member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church. The strength she derived from her beliefs allowed her to always have a positive outlook on life in even the most challenging situations.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Susan Black, Jeff (Kris) Black, Julie (Ed) Stuart, & Laura (Steve) Cox; brother, John Hoersten; grandchildren, Emily, Jason & Adam Black, Mina Cox, & Eli Stuart; & many nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Black, & siblings, Edwin, Isidore, Richard, Harold, Roger Hoersten, Rita Adams, Mary Bullinger, & Betty Daeger.
