Joseph G. Wenzlick 79 of Antwerp, Ohio formerly of Ottoville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by his family.

Joseph was born in Lima, OH on January 21, 1946 the son of the late Herman and Ursula (Elwer) Wenzlick. He was a 1964 graduate of Ottoville High School. He joined the Navy in February 1966 and somehow was encouraged to become a Navy Corpsman. He was stationed in Chu-Lai with Marine Aircraft Group - F2, he was a crewmember on a H-34 Marine helicopter for several months doing medivac missions and search and rescue missions. On one of those missions he injured his back in a rough landing plus over the years he had been taking several medications from the side effects from Agent Orange. He served in Vietnam from May of 1967 to May 1968. Discharged a 2nd Class Petty Officer in November 1969. He received several ribbons and medals, he was awarded the:

National Defense Service Medal

Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars

Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960

Fleet Marine Fleet Combat Operations Insignia

Served with Marine Aircraft Group 12 as a Navy Corpsman

Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon

Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color with Palm)

Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Action, First Class Color with Palm)

Aircrewman Wings.

He married Jacquelyn Rode on February 26, 1971. He is survived by his children Deanna (Tom) Wann, Dwain (Mickie) and Dave (Mindy). His grandchildren Thomas, Drayson (Abbi), Cullen (Gen), Devin (Abbie), Libby (Colby Mankey), Cooper, Gabe, Melanie (Zach) Thornton, Madeline (Andrew Warner) Rioux and Michael (Abby Gorrell) Rioux, along with great-grandchildren Kairi, Weston, Crimson, Caspian, Juliet, Daniel, Amelia, Valerie, Abel, Scarlett, Olivia and one on the way.

He is also survived by his siblings Thomas (Masie), Otto (Rose), Ann Garr, Rudy (Carol), Marilyn (Jerry) Minnick, Jean Tribolet, Jim (Yvonne), Dennis (Marilyn), Karen (Paul) Knippen, Betty (Bill) Shobe and Carol Grothaus.

He is preceded in death by his brother Ray and sister Janice Myers

He worked at General Motors for 35 years retiring in 2006. In his free time he enjoyed playing sports with his children and grandchildren plus going to all of their sporting events. He enjoyed driving his collectable cars of which he owned quite a few over the years. He was a Life Member of the following V.F.W in Antwerp, D.A.V in Defiance, Am. Vets in Defiance, American Legion in Hicksville and a social member of the Hicksville Eagles.

Viewing is Monday, November 24th, 4 PM to 7 PM at Dooley Funeral Home, 202 W. River Street, Antwerp.

Joe's funeral service is Tuesday, November 25th, 10:30 AM, with viewing one hour prior, at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

He will be laid to rest with military honors in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
