Mabel Smith

Mabel M. Smith, 94, formerly of Antwerp, passed away May 7, 2010 at the Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mabel was born in Archbold on May 22, 1915, a daughter of the late Lizzie (Short) and Welden Pursel.

She was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Fulton County, Ohio; the oldest living Golden Star Mother in Ohio; a lifetime member of the Antwerp VFW Auxiliary. She also loved to crochet.

On April 11, 1942 she married Lyle Smith in Indiantown Gap, PA. He died in 1972.

Mabel will be sadly missed by her daughters, Betty (Ronald) Figgins of Hicksville, Mary (Wayne) Applegate of Auburn, Elaine (Rick) Wiegman, DeAnn (William) Smith & Pat Smith all of Fort Wayne; sons, Larry (Carolyn) of Sutherlin, OR, Ronald (Carole) of Moline, IL & Jerry (Sharon) of Fort Wayne; 20 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren & 2 great great grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Allen; stepmother, Lorene & brothers, Orville, Roscoe & Paul Pursel.

Her funeral service is at Antwerp United Methodist Church, on Monday May 10th at 10 am, with viewing one hour prior.

Viewing is also Sunday, 2-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

She will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery.
