Michael Baumert

Michael "Mick" Baumert, 73, of Payne, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Laurels of Defiance.

Mick was born on June 1, 1952, a son of the late Opal June (Phleger) & William Baumert.

Mick spent much of his life behind the wheel as a truck driver. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming, finding his greatest peace in nature. He was also a fan of truck pulls, loved playing softball, and rarely missed a NASCAR race. A devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Mick cheered for his team through every season. Known for his ornery sense of humor, he had a way of making people laugh and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He will be sadly missed by his sons, Derek (Jessie Kniceley) & Corey (Angel) Baumert; siblings, Nan (Stan) Hagerfeld, Larry (Karen) Baumert, & Greg (Lisa) Baumert; 6 grandchildren; & 2 great grandchildren. 

Viewing is Wednesday, June 3rd from 4-7 PM at Dooley Funeral Home, Payne. 

Service is Thursday, June 4th at 10:30 with viewing one hour prior at the funeral home. 

He will be laid to rest in Lehman Cemetery.
