Ruth Bell Derck

Ruth Bell Derck, 74, of Antwerp passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at her residence.

Ruth was born in Antwerp on July 26, 1936, a daughter of the late Galen C. and Francis B. Derck.

She worked for several years on the telephone switch board in Antwerp before dial telephones. She also worked for several years as a photo finisher for Ehrhart Studios and later as a receptionist at Dana Weatherhead.

Ruth enjoyed painting, reading, knitting. It was a delight to visit with her family & friends, especially her nieces and nephews. Despite being stricken with polio as a child she maintained a cheerful attitude and spent most of her life caring for her family after their mother's death.

She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Ann (Chuck) Wiedman, Jean (Paul) Reinhart, Mary (Kenny) Donat, Linda (Brooks) Pendergrast & Cindy (Mike) Knight all of Antwerp & brother, John of Columbus; 27 nieces & nephews and numerous great nieces & nephews.

Also preceding her in death are her brothers, Robert & George; half brother, Tom Cottrell & 2 nephews.
Her funeral service is at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, at 11 am on Tuesday, June 7th, with viewing one hour prior to her service.

Viewing is also Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home.

She will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery.

Jean - you, your sisters and brother are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.  Ruth was an inspiration to us all during our school years - positive and smiling. Although years and miles have separated us, she will be affectionately remembered.

I can remember riding my bike down to see Ruth.  She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.  She was a true reminder to always look bright side in life.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all Ruth''s family members.  I have great memories of going to Ruth''s house with Annie when I was a little girl.  Thanks to Ruth and all her family for those wonderful memories.
