Ruth Schilb

Ruth Elizabeth Schilb, 96, passed from her earthly home on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.  Survivors are a son, Walter (Sue) Schilb, and daughter, Mary (Paul) Culler.  Ruth leaves 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Schilb in 1990, and her daughter, Jane Lucille Schilb (Poth) in 1957.   She was the youngest daughter of George E. and Rose Clemmer.   Deceased siblings include Wilbur Clemmer, George H. Clemmer, Madelyn Jump, Helen Jenkins and Carl Clemmer.

Ruth and Tom lived most of their lives in Antwerp as owners and operators of Schilb Funeral Home, Schilb Furniture Store and Schilb Appliance Store.   In Antwerp, Ruth was active in the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Fin-de-Siecle Club and Band Mothers. She also enjoyed her time at the Auburn Country Club.

Ruth spent 30 retirement years in Sebring Florida where she became an avid golfer.  She loved entertaining family and friends in her home there.  In January of 2000 Ruth moved to Georgetown Place in Fort Wayne where she lived until 2003 when she went to live with her granddaughter, Karen (Tom) Fenker in Leo, IN.  In 2009 she moved to the Manor House in Antwerp.  Ruth enjoyed attending Sunday evening services at the Manor House and being back to her “roots” in Antwerp where she was near to her family.

Viewing is Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

Services are Tuesday, 11 am, with viewing one hour prior, at Dooley Funeral Home.

To Mary and Paul and Walter and Sue,  We were friends years ago and I still think of Jane now and then. To have had your mother for so long was a blessing. I enjoyed staying with Jane at her home and Walter picking on me. Hope all of you are doing well. May prayers and thoughts are with you.

Walt, Mary and families:  My deepest sympathies. Ruth was special to me.  She shared many stories with me and was always sweet and loving.  She was thrilled when I had found a paper fan I had come across from the Schilb funeral home.  I also know how much she loved all of you.  May good memories fill your hearts.

what a wonderful lady, I always enjoyed visiting with Ruth wehn I went in to see mom. I had the pleasure of pollishing her nails several times and she always loved that and enjoyed chatting with me about her family. I always teased her about the sourkrout she always ate and her icecream. She will be missed. Gods blessing to you all during this time of loss.
