Walter T. Schilb

Walter Thomas Schilb, 85, of Antwerp, Ohio passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.

Walter was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 7, 1940, a son of the late Ruth Elizabeth (Clemmer) Schilb and Thomas Carr Schilb.

Walter was the last of the Schilb family to own and operate Schilb and Sons Funeral Home in Antwerp. He went on to teach biology at Antwerp Local Schools until his retirement. Although Walter loved his work, his real passions were his family, God, fishing, especially trips to Canada, golfing and the friends he made at the Masonic Lodge, the Rock Church and anywhere he traveled. It was never a secret that he coached Ohio State Football and IU Basketball from his living room. Times that he cherished the most were the trips to Maine with his wife, Sue.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Karen (Thomas) Fenker, Steven (Kathy) Schilb and Thomas "Scott" (Allen) Schilb; brother-in-law, Dr. William Ross; sister in-law, Jan (Donald) Farnsworth; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and his beloved Collie, Daisy.

Walter was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue (Ross); daughter, Jennifer Deal and sisters, Jane Poth and Mary Culler.

Viewing is Wednesday, 4 PM to 7 PM, with a Masonic Service at 7 PM, at Dooley Funeral Home, 202 W. River Street, Antwerp.

His funeral service is 10:30 AM, with viewing one hour prior on Thursday, June 25th at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

He will be laid to rest in Rochester Cemetery Cecil, Ohio.
