PLEASE SEE THE UPDATED VISITATION AND SERVICE INFORMATION.

James David Harp, known as Jimmy to family and friends, left us on March 16, 2021 at the age of 66. He was a Hospice patient at the Gardens of Paulding, Paulding OH. Jimmy was born January 28th, 1955 to C. James Harp and Elaine Schaefer Harp. He was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Payne, Ohio now known as Divine Mercy Catholic Church. Jimmy attended Payne High School until the consolidation and then graduated from Wayne Trace High School in 1973. Following graduation, he attended Bowling Green State University, then transferred to and earned his undergraduate degree from The Defiance College. Jimmy furthered his education, earning a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne, IN. Jimmy was an accomplished artist, a collector, a whimsical story teller, and most of all, a potter... and many of his family and friends are the lucky recipients of his works of art and life.
Jimmy was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity in college. He was also a member of the John Paulding Historical Society. Jimmy was a 1st Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, joining when he wintered with his parents in Hot Springs Village, Ark. Jimmy liked to consider himself an honorary member of Laetitia and Sorosis Clubs in Payne, as he used to make sure his mother went to her monthly club meetings and helped her play cards. Jimmy enjoyed exhibiting his art at the University of St. Francis Alumni Art Show as well as the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, OH and at Defiance College. He loved art shows and was a frequent attendant at shows in the area. He loved all living things, shared his favorite pleasures (such as pickled eggs or green olive and sausage pizza with extra cheese) with those around him, and throughout life continued a strong faith in the Catholic Church.
Jimmy is survived by a sister, Frederica (Fritzi) Harp Nodine, Hamilton IN. He has 2 nieces, Sarah (Will Wulff) Nodine of St. Louis, MO and Bailey Nodine, Indianapolis IN. He has one nephew, Jon (April) Nodine of Louisville, KY. He has 4 great nieces and nephews, Jones and Lola Nodine and Louie and Olive Elaine Wulff. Jimmy is also survived by several cousins scattered throughout the country who remember fondly the "ghost stories" he told around the campfires at the lake. Jimmy was a cat lover and cared for several cats who remain at home. Preceding Jimmy in death were his parents, his grandparents, Fritz and Helen Schaefer and Clarence and Anna Harp, as well as many loved Aunts and Uncles.
